The Barutheela is a handsome tallship, built in the Maldives following the original plans of an 18th century Spanish Galleon taking 4 years of careful craftsmanship to complete. The 'Bounty' appeal of the ship continues in the interior design with brass portholes and other fittings found in the antique markets of Bombay. The ship is equipped with excellent technical facilities and the crew strives to offer passengers the highest quality diving afforded by the thilas and kandus of the Maldivian archipelago whilst recreating a long gone era of sea travel. Meal times are an adventure of their own courtesy of the onboard gourmet chef, who provides three tantalising meals per day. Barutheela carries 12 passengers in luxurious twin and double en-suite cabins, all fully airconditioned. Diving

Current points are where the big action is encountered ie where an ocean current accelerates into a channel, or kandu, through to the lagoon of an atoll, or in the opposite direction. Here whitetip reef sharks and enormous marble rays are found. Hawksbill turtles and octopus are among the wide variety of other animals that enjoy the flows of water over the reef top. During outer reef dives, encounters with grey reef sharks, eagle rays, barracudas and huge swarms of trevallies are common. Barutheela gives divers the unique opportunity of diving in exclusive freedom, at legendary sights such as Maaya Thila, Broken Rock or Helengeli Thila, long before the island resort crowds reach the sites. The diving dhoni carries the compressors and equipment, and there is a choice of 10, 12 or 15 litre steel tanks and nitrox for those who order it when booking.
