El Galleon Beach Resort, Puerto Galera
Puerto
Galera is located on the north east coast of Mindoro and offers some of
the best diving in the world. The El Galleon Beach Resort is renowned
for its peaceful beachfront surroundings, situated on Small Lalaguna Beach
where the rainforest, quite literally meets the reef. There are 30 air
conditioned rooms set on a hillside or by the resorts swimming pool, an
area of outstanding natural beauty. There is a restaurant situated at
the water’s edge (and very popular with the locals) offering both
Filipino and European cuisine and a bar perfect for tropical sundowners.
In addition to diving, there is the opportunity to explore inland with
rainforest trekking trips where you can see the stunning waterfalls and
meet the locals in Mangyan (indigenous native) villages. Other watersports
on offer include sea kayaking, windsurfing and sailing. Golf is also available
nearby.

Diving
The
dive centre at El Galleon is a Five Star IDC centre, operated by Asia
divers, the largest dive school in the area. Qualified divers can enjoy
over 30 dive sites within 15 minutes travel and further their qualification
with PADI courses at all levels. The area boasts over 450 species of corals
and Suited to all experience levels’ there are at least 5 scheduled
dives per day with a choice of sites. The resort uses local outrigger
boats called ‘bangka’ with no more than 6 divers per boat.
Diving is possible year round with water temperatures between 22 and 29c,
and visibility is usually between 15 and 40m. Day trips to a number of
outlying islands including Anilao, Verde and Bonito are also available.

£325 for 7 nights twin share accommodation, return transfer from
airport to resort (2 hour drive south of Manila to port of Batangas &
50 minute boat ride to resort), breakfast daily & 10 dives.
